Earlier this week I noticed heavy hatches of Light Cahills and Little Yellow Stoneflies. It is not at all unusual to sit in the tail of a long mountain pool and see a half dozen adult little yellow stoneflies drifting through the pool. More than likely there will be 3-4 trout feeding on these naturals. If you use a slack-line presentation and my pop-strike which assures a quick, gentle release you can catch several of these trout. Recommended flies for this week: Light Cahill Dry size 16, Spirit of Pittsford Mill size 16, Murray's Little Yellow Stonefly Dry size 16. For nymphs Murray's Stonefly Nymph (yellow) size 16, Light Cahill Nymph size 14, Murray's Professor Nymph size 14.
All of the Shenandoah National Park streams are in great shape. I found better water levels by coming in off the Skyline Drive.
