If you want to brush up on your fly casting, learn a new cast, or simply try it for the first time then this is the class for you.  On our casting lawn, I will teach you how to perform all of the standard casts as well as roll casts, curve casts, and shooting line.  After the casting class we will then proceed back to the fly shop where I will show you how to rig your tackle including the knots to use when putting your line and backing on a fly reel.  We provide the rod and reel outfits for you to use for the class or if you prefer you can bring your own.

12/06/25 at 10am --Classroom Discussion on Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park

12/06/25 at 10am REGISTER

This two hour workshop(held in person in classroom setting--not on stream)will feature a slide show and a map review of the Shenandoah National Park in order to share with you my 40+ years of fishing in the Park.  My goal is to help you find the best streams, tactics, and flies so that you may enjoy the Park and its trout fishing as much as I do.  The Shenandoah National Park asked me to write a book on the Park many years ago, to which I did.  This book is the official book for the Park--Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park by Harry Murray.  By using this book and the maps we have in the fly shop I can help you find some of the best streams to fish in the Shenandoah National Park. You will not be on the stream for this class.   Most beginners take this classroom workshop and then follow up with our On The Stream Mountain Trout Schools in the spring. Space is limited so reserve your spot today!

12/13/25 at 10am --Basic Fly Tying 101

12/13/25 at 10am REGISTER

Many anglers find it enjoyable to spend the winter months tying their flies for the next years fishing season.  This two hour workshop held at our fly shop in Edinburg, VA will teach you how to tie dry flies, nymphs, streamers and deer hair bass bugs that are effective all across the country.  This is a very basic workshop that is geared toward beginners and for those that just want to brush up on their techniques.  We do not supply the materials for this workshop.  You can purchase one of our basic fly tying kits, bring your own materials, or just watch as I tie the sample flies. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required.
