Stocked Trout Streams & Delayed Harvest Areas Stream Report - December 26, 2020

12-26-2020 - The Shenandoah Valley Stocked Trout Streams & Delayed Harvest Areas are too high and discolored from rain earlier in the week to provide good fishing.
During the winter the trout in many large stocked trout streams and delayed harvest trout streams (throughout Virginia) feed heavily on midges. Since they often take both the emergers and the adults in the same pool, a good ploy is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Midge Dry size 18 as the top fly on a 9ft 6X Classic Leader with a Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle Nymph size 16 on a 24 inch 7X dropper below it. This way you have both of the naturals covered. Other flies productive flies include the Griffith Gnat size 16 and Zebra Copper John size 16.

All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. For the latest stocking schedule, check the Virginia Stocking Schedule.
