Smallmouth Bass being held by an angler

Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update June 12, 2025

Update 6/12/25 at 1pm--The North Fork of the Shenandoah River has returned to normal levels and the clarity has improved. It is fishable from Mount Jackson to Strasburg.

Update 6/12/25 at 1pm--The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is full but fishable especially by floating. The volume has returned to almost normal levels so it is wadable (wading staff is recommended). Areas around Luray are recommended for wading.   Use heavy weighted flies such as Murray's Marauder size 6 in chartreuse, or olive, Murray's Magnum Bluegill size 4. You might need to go to a Fluorocarbon Leader to get your flies down. Fish these across the bottom as slowly as you can. For topwater action use a Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4, Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 4.

If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop.

We have a few openings in our Full Day Fly Fishing School on June 20 and June 21. Each day starts at 9am at our fly shop with a classroom presentation and then continues with on-the-stream instruction until about 5pm. Fly Rod and Reel outfits are provided. This is a great opportunity to learn more about fly fishing, hone your skills and just get out on the river with other anglers. Class sizes are small.
