Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 30, 2025
Share
There are a few hatches occurring on the native brook trout streams including Light Cahills, Caddis, and Little Yellow Stonefly. The water levels are better by coming into the streams from the lower boundaries in the Shenandoah National Park. Stay low and sneak, hide your approach and DO NOT GET BEHIND SOMEONE. What they did not catch, they have already spooked. For more information on access to the SNP streams and hatch charts, see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.
Recommended flies this week include: Light Cahill Dry size 16, Mr. Rapidan Parachute Dry size 16, Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Tan size 16 and Little Yellow Stonefly Dry size 16. Fishing a dry with a dropper is more successful if you can handle that. Recommended nymphs include Little Yellow Stonefly Nymph size 16, Copper John Green size 16, Light Cahill Nymph size 14. I have switched over to 6X Mountain Leaders 6ft.
