High Gradient Sections Mountain Trout Streams

Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report- August 21, 2017

Murray's Flying Beetle
In order to find the sections of mountain trout streams where you can expect good fishing as the streams get low at this time of the year, go to the high gradient sections of the streams. You can locate these on your topo maps. Generally they are located in what I call "mid mountain", which is half way between the top and the bottom of the mountain. Trout in these areas are less wary than those in the long flat pools. I am doing well in these areas with the Murray's Flying Beetle sizes 14 and 16. I use Murray's Classic 9 foot 6X Leader on these streams.
