Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - December 24, 2019

Posted by Harry Murray on

The little dark stoneflies are still present around our mountain trout streams and they are easy to spot on the snow along the streams. Go one on one with any trout you see rising using a Murray's Little Dark Stonefly size 18 on a 9ft 6X Classic Leader. If you don't see rising trout, use this same fly on a 7 1/2ft 6X Classic Leader with a Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle (Brown) size 16 on an 18-inch 6X dropper. Fish this rig upstream dead drift along the banks.

These streams are getting cold so don't expect the trout to feed as they did in the spring and summer.
