Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - February 6, 2020
Share
An effective technique for catching trout in the mountain streams at this time of the year is to fish the Murray's Olive Strymph size 10 upstream with a bounce retrieve. This consists of casting the Strymph upstream and allowing it to sink deeply. Then retrieve it with a lifting and dropping rod motion as it drifts back down the pool. This mimics the swimming action of the minnows in the stream and it is easy to detect the strikes because we can both feel them and see them on the Scientific Anglers Indicators on our Murray's Trout Nymph Leader.
These streams are still cold so do not expect to get the best fishing as you would in April. With the rainy forecast for the rest of today and tonight, these streams will be carrying extra water. You will get better water levels by coming into the streams from the Skyline Drive.
