Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - July 30, 2025

Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - July 30, 2025

The native brook trout streams are holding up well this summer because of the rains. All of the Shenandoah National Park streams are fishable. Plan to fish in the mornings or evenings for the best fishing. For more information on the Park streams, see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park.

Recommended Gear:

✅A 3-weight fly rod, preferable in the 6.5 to 7.5ft range.  A Murray's Mountain Trout Fly Rod is perfect.

✅Murray's Classic 7.5ft 6X or Murray's Mountain 6ft 6X Leader

✅Mr. Rapidan Dry size 16, Murray's Purple Dun size 16, Murray's Flying Beetle size 16, Mr. Rapidan Ant size 14, Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle Nymph size 14, Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph size 14

Little Stoney Creek west of Edinburg is clear and fishable as well for native brook trout. Plan to use the same recommended gear as mentioned above.
