Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 14, 2023

The fishing is tough on the small native brook trout streams as the water is low and the trout are very wary. Plan to come into the streams from the lower boundaries where the water levels will be a little better than the upper sections.  The Rose, Hughes and White Oak tend to hold up better in the low water conditions.  For access to these, see my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park or stop by the fly shop.  The Murray's Flying Beetle size 16, Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16, and Parachute Ant, Orange size 16 have been working well this past week. Fish these on a Classic 7.5ft 6X leader.

Hide your approach and stay as low as you can--as I said the trout are wary.  Last week I reported some tips on snake safety.  That still applies for this week as well as the rest of the summer.

We are currently working on our Spring 2024 Mountain Trout Fly Fishing School dates and should have them finalized within a month.  If you would like to receive information on these dates, then email or call us to be added to the list.

We still have openings in our On The Stream Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Schools for Summer 2023 if you are interested in learning more about fishing on larger rivers.
