Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 18, 2021

The emergers of the Epeorus pleuralis mayflies are very active and many are hatching into adults. This is a great time to fish the Mr. Rapidan Parachute Dry fly size 14 with a Mr. Rapidan Emerger Nymph size 14 on a 18 inch 5X dropper below it. I use this to fish to rising trout and to cover the water if there are no rising trout.  I have had several customers doing well on the Blue Quill Dry size 16 as this hatch is heavy on some streams.

I feel you will do better by coming in off the Skyline Drive or the headwaters of the streams as some of the lower sections are still carrying some extra water volume.

I just did a video on what you can expect in April on these native brook trout streams.......
