Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report-May 15, 2018

You will get your best fishing and water levels by coming into the streams from the Skyline Drive and upper reaches because of the heavy rains we received.

I've seldom seen as heavy hatches of light cahill mayflies as we have this year in our mountain trout streams. If you watch closely as you approach the pools from downstream you can spot a good trout feeding on the tail of each pool. The Murray's Yellow Drake Dry Fly size 16 fished on 6X will take many of these trout. By releasing him gently you can usually catch several more trout further up in the pool. Other good flies include the Light Cahill Dry size 16 and the Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle, Brown size 16.
