Mountain Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - November 20, 2019

The native brook trout in these streams will continue to spawn throughout the rest of this month and into December. So if you go, please watch your step so that you are not stepping on the spawning beds.

Expand your chances of success by fishing the Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16 with a Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle size 16 on a 24 inch 6X mono dropper below it. Fish this to rising trout or to just cover the water. The deep areas in the center of the pools may hold some large trout now.

Stream ConditionsSkyline Drive is now open in all sections. This can change frequently if we have storms or bad weather as we had last weekend.  To check the status of the Skyline Drive please call 540-999-3500, option 1, option 1 for the latest update before heading to these streams. For access to the streams check out my book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park for stream reference, hatch charts, and all around good information for the park fishing. The stream temperatures have been around 42 degrees.

I will be conducting a 2-hour workshop on the Shenandoah National Park Streams in my fly shop in Edinburg VA from 10a.m. to noon on Saturday December 7. For more information and to register...
