Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - May 26, 2026
Native Brook Trout--We are getting alerts this morning from Shenandoah National Park that the Lower Whiteoak Canyon parking area off of Weakley Hollow Road is currently closed and inaccessible due to flooding on the roadway. We have had several inches of rain over the last few days causing the lower boundaries of the streams to be high as this extra water makes its way down the mountain. If you plan to fish the SNP streams, as I stated toward the end of last week, go into the streams from the upper headwaters off the Skyline Drive. This is the only way that you will get above this extra water. Be extra careful while hiking and watch for downed trees and trail closures. - Murray's Flying Beetle size 14
- Mr. Rapidan Dry size 14
- Near Nuff Mayfly size 14
- Spirit of Pittsford Mill size 14
- Olsen's Blowtorch Barbless size 16
- Copper John Jig, Barbless size 16
- Perdigon Nymph size 14
A dry with a dropper rig is recommended. Fish these on a Murray's Classic 7.5ft 5X Leader or Mountain 6ft 5X Leader.
Stocked Trout Streams
All of the local stocked trout streams are carrying extra water. Big Stoney Creek west of Edinburg is very full, murky but is fishable by using heavier weighted flies and Murray's Fluorocarbon Leaders. Passage Creek in Fort Valley is very full and discolored so I would give that another two days to clear up some more. Just be extra careful when wading.
