Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Stream Report - March 20, 2024

We are catching some nice bass below where the small feeder streams enter the river. The large populations of crayfish, sculpins, and hellgrammites in these feeders are a great food source for the bass and they move in to take advantage of them. The Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite in size 4 or 6 and Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder (black) size 4 are working well this week.  Fish these in the main part of the river just downstream of these feeder streams on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.

Both the North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are fishable.  The water levels are perfect. Water temperature is still cold enough that you will need chest high waders and I recommend a wading staff for safe wading. If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop and we'll be glad to help you.
