Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - April 1, 2021

I haven't reported on the smallmouth bass streams in a while because the water was just too cold for good fishing.  I have a few customers that like to get out this time of year to try the bass fishing just to see what they can get.

Their are many minnows that live on the shallow gravel bars all day but when the suns is on the water the bass prefer to feed on the shiners in water from 3-5 feet deep where the gravel bars taper off to the main part of the river.

You can catch these bass by staying well back off the gravel bars and casting a Murray's Heavy Shiner Streamer size 6 or Silver Outcast fifty feet straight across stream. I swim the streamer slowly back across stream and usually catch my bass just as it approaches the deep edge of the gravel bar.
