Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report -April 11, 2019

Many of the bass are spreading out in the large pools now. These pools can be floated or fished by wading down the shallow sides. The abundance of minnows here such as hogsuckers, creek chubs, and dace minnows in these pools are a great food source for the bass and they feed heavily upon them. The water temperature is still cool so bring your chest high waders.

Stream Conditions:  The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. The Woodstock area and upstream to Mount Jackson will give you the best water levels.    The South Fork is clear but still carrying full amounts of water for wading.  Floating will be your best option.

 Mount Jackson 3.36ft
CFS 380

Strasburg 2.82ft.
CFS 664

Luray 3.33ft
CFS 1520

Recommended Flies:  Murray's Magnum HogSucker size 4, Magnum Creek Chub size 4, and Magnum Darter size 4. I cast these across stream and after they sink deeply I swim them back across the stream bottom by stripping them 6 inches every 10 seconds.
