Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 1, 2019
Share
Recommended Flies: I am getting some excellent smallmouth fishing by using a Murray's Crayfish size 6 fishing below the riffles throughout the day. However, be sure to fish the banks at dusk over cobblestone streambottoms. The Shiner Heavy Streamer size 6 is excellent in the three to five foot deep cuts beside the aquatic grassbeds that grow around the river crossing ledges. Fish all of these on a Bright Butt 2X Leader.
Stream Conditions:
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. Downstream from access #18 (Meem's bottom) has been doing well. The localized thunderstorms have kept the river at a great level from Mount Jackson to Strasburg.
The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. The water levels are good for either wading or floating. Downstream from access #14 (Bealer's) has been doing well. For all public access, check out our marked map in the fly shop.
