Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report- August 8, 2019

Recommended Flies: There are many good crayfish patterns on the market, but one of my guides made a believer out of me with the Murray's Crayfish size 6. He was teaching his student how to fish the Murray's Crayfish deeply around the large boulders. On his second cast he got into a 4 1/2 pound smallmouth. The design is very durable and I have many of them in my vest/ fly box that have landed over 100 bass. Use a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.

Stream Conditions:
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. Localized thunderstorms have been going through different areas of the river but it has not caused any high or muddy water. The Edinburg and Woodstock area have been fishing well. Downstream of access #1 has many crayfish. Wade carefully so you do not spook the fish.
The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. The water levels are good for either wading or floating. Downstream from access #11 (Seakford's) has been doing well. For all public access, check out our marked map in the fly shop.
