Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - December 3, 2025

Believe it or not I still have a few anglers that are trying their luck for that big bass. The cooler water temperatures have prompted the bass to hold in somewhat calm, deeper water that has a little riffle right beside it. They want the maximum amount of food with the least amount of effort. To prompt these big bass, we must provide a big mouthful slowly right past their nose. Are you going to be successful on every cast?--NO. A day on the water is better than a day in the office. 

Recommended flies:

• Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder, Black or Olive size 4
• Murray's Madtom Sculpin, black size 4
• CJ Sluggo size 1/0
• Galloups Dungeon size 2

Fish these as deeply and slowly as you can. A 9ft, 7 or 8-weight fly rod is recommended for the bigger flies.
