Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - July 15, 2026
Share
The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clearing nicely. Some areas around Mount Jackson and Edinburg have a little stained color this morning but the Woodstock to Strasburg area is clear. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable. Recommended for wading and floating in kayaks.
Water flows are good for wading and the water temperature is staying around 77 degrees. Best times to fish are early morning (around 5-7am) and late evening (6:30 to dark). Fish along the shady banks, around ledges and downed trees. We are starting to see the dobsonfly eggs along the tree leaves hanging over the river.
Wade as carefully as you can as the fish are wary.
Recommended flies:
- Murray's Regular Hellgrammite size 4, 6, 8
- Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4
- Olive Dragonfly Nymph size 6
- Clouser Crayfish, Olive size 6
- Murray's Marauder Olive or Brown size 6
- Whitlock Near Nuff Spuddler, size 6
