Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 17, 2026

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 17, 2026

Both the North Fork and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are low, clear and fishable. The North Fork is best for wading from Mount Jackson to Strasburg.  The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is best for wading and floating.  There are many opportunities to do combo float/wade trips on the South Fork.  Don't be afraid to beach the kayak and wade out on the many limestone ledges that run across the river, Best time to fish is early morning and the last two hours before dark. If fishing during the day when the sun is bright, fish along the shady banks and downed trees. Water temperatures are in the high 70's so leave the waders at home and wade wet with just wading boots/shoes.

Hot flies for this week:

  • Murray's Olive Marauder size 6 or 8
  • Shenk's White Streamer size 4
  • Murray's Brown Marauder size 6 or 8
  • Clouser Crayfish, Olive size 6

  • Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 8
  • Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger, size 4 or 6  (cut the week guard off)

Fish these on a Murray's Bright Butt 9ft 2X Leader.
