Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - June 24, 2025

The North Fork and the South Fork of the Shenandoah River are back to normal and fishable. The best time to fish with the hot, sunny days is early morning and late evening. Fish poppers against the shady banks and around downed trees. Fish streamers around the riffles and crayfish patterns along the cobblestone bottoms. Recommended flies:

  • Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4
  • Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 4
  • Murray's Chartreuse Marauder size 6
  • Murray's Olive Marauder size 6
  • Murray's Olive Crayfish size 6

Fish these on a Murray's Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader with a 9ft 7-weight fly rod. Wade carefully so you are not spooking the bass.

There is plenty of public access on the North Fork and the South Fork. Stop by the fly shop and see our master map or see my book Fly Fishing the Shenandoah River for Smallmouth Bass.

Murray's Fly Shop will be closed July 4-7. Online orders placed during this time frame  will be shipped upon our return on July 8.
