Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update June 8, 2021

Myself and my customers at the fly shop have been doing well with the Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite in black or olive in a size 6 on the smallmouth bass streams.  Fish this across stream below the riffles. This will enable you to keep a tight line on the fly so you can quickly feel the strike and hook the bass. This angle produces a natural undulating action to the hellgrammite making it look alive to the bass.  Some anglers are getting some good topwater action with the Shenandoah Blue Popper size 6 and Shenandoah Sunfish Slider size 6. Fish these on a 2X or 3X leader.

Update June 8, 2021--The North Fork of the Shenandoah River upstream of Edinburg is currently high and muddy.  Therefore this muddy water will be working its way down the river in the next day or two. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is in beautiful shape. If you need help with the access places stop in the fly shop or see my book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams.
