Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 27, 2024

The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is in great shape for wading or floating. If you plan to float, plan accordingly since there are several dams that are not legal or safe to go around.  The water temperature is still cool and we are on the early part of the season but we are able to land a few fall fish and one or two nice bass.  The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is still pushing some extra water so I wouldn't try to wade it.

There is a 70 foot long damming ledge across the North Fork of the Shenandoah close to Edinburg which has cuts of 4-6ft deep all below its length. I fish this by swing nymphing with a Murray's Marauder Olive size 6.  Other flies that work with swing nymphing in these conditions--Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite, Black size 6, Murray's Strymph, Olive size 4 and Murray's Magnum Darter size 4.

If you need help on access, stop by the fly shop and we'll be glad to help you.  Chapman's Landing 2 miles north of Edinburg and the Lupton access to the Seven Bends State Park in Woodstock have been good.
