Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - May 21, 2019

Recommended Flies:  Since the water levels are dropping we are catching many smallmouth bass in the deep water in the upper sections of the pools with Murray's Heavy Black Hellgrammite size 4. The Swinging Nymph tactic we teach in our bass schools enables you to fish these nymphs deeper than any method you can use with a floating line. The Murray's Bright Butt 9ft 2X Leader with its two built in Scientific Anglers Indicators is a great help when using the Swinging Nymph Tactic.

Stream Conditions:  The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and in beautiful shape. Any of the access places from Strasburg upstream through Mount Jackson would be great to fish at this time. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable.  I would recommend floating this fork as the water is still a little high for good wading.
