Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - May 5, 2026

Both the North Fork and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are clear and fishable. Water levels are lower than normal for this time of year. Wading is recommended for the North Fork. Wading and/or floating is recommended for the South Fork. Water temperature is running around high 60"s to low 70's. Afternoon and evening fishing is best.
Hot Flies for this week:
- Murray's Madtom Sculpin, black size 4 or 6
- Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite, black or brown size 4 or 6
- Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4
- Murray's Crayfish, Olive size 4 or 6
- We are starting to get some on topwater--Shenandoah Blue Popper size 4 and if you really want to provide a big mouthful--Mouserat size 6 fished along the banks in the shade.
