Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 1, 2025
Share
Both the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are low and clear but fishable. The water temperature is cooling so plan to get on the river within the next few weeks and be sure to bring your chest high waders. Wade as carefully as you can, as the bass are wary. Fish along shady banks, deep ledges, and downed trees that provide protection for bass.
Recommended flies for this week:
- Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 6
- Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4
- Murray's Magnum Darter size 4
- Bass Caddis Nymph size 6
- Bass Stonefly Nymph size 4
- Murray's Hellgrammite, Black size 6
Strip these along the bottom on a Murray's Bright Butt 9ft 2X Leader.
