Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 22, 2025
Share
Many large bass choose deep feeding stations below the heavy swirling riffles. Therefore we want to offer them a big mouthful. There are several flies that I recommend for this area:
- Murray's Madtom Sculpin, black size 4
- Murray's Tungsten Cone Head Marauder, black size 4
- Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4
Fish these on a Murray's Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader or a Murray's Fluorocarbon 9ft 2X leader.
This is the time of year that you won't catch as many but you might catch the biggest of the season. They are going to move to deeper water as the water temperatures get colder.
The water is very low and crystal clear on both the North Fork and South Fork of the Shenandoah River so wade carefully. Afternoon hours are best because the water has had time to raise a few degrees. Bring your chest high waders!
