Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 7, 2026

Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 7, 2026

The North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are low, clear and fishable. This is the time of year that we land our bigger smallmouth. The cooler water temperatures prompt the big bass to stock up for the winter months. Big flies are recommended with a 9ft 7 or 8-weight fly rod. Water temperatures are running in high 50's to low 60's so bring your chest high waders.

Recommended flies:

  • Murray's Magnum Darter size 4
  • Murray's Magnum Hog Sucker size 4
  • Articulated Daddy's Money size 4
  • CJ Sluggo size 1/0
  • Mousey McMouseface size 1/0
  • Mouserat size 6
  • Bombshell Popper Bronze, size 6
