Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 14, 2022

Well we finally received a little rain and the Shenandoah River looks good this week. Even though we only received an inch of rain over a two-day period, the water levels are better on both the North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River.

Many of you have noticed that this is the time of year for grassbeds on the river. I can catch bass in the 4 to 6 feet deep water just short of these grassbeds.  Cover this area thoroughly with a Murray's Heavy Shiner by swimming it right along the stream bottom beside the grass.

There are many hellgrammites and crayfish in the river so be sure to have a Murray's Heavy Hellgrammite, Black size 6 or 8 and a Murray's Crayfish, Olive size 6 in your box. Our students have been doing well with these the past two weeks.  For topwater action against the shady banks, use a Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger size 6 or Murray's Frog Chugger size 6.  Fish all of these on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.

The Edinburg Ole Time Festival is these weekend, therefore the fly shop will be closed on Saturday September 17.
