Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 23, 2026

The Shenandoah Valley has received 1-2 inches of rain is some areas over the last two days.  While this has helped the Shenandoah River some, we can still use some more. The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is looking good this morning with just a little color from the rain. Recommended for wading from Mount Jackson to Strasburg.  Some areas are suitable for kayaking. Just be aware of the 3 dams that are on the North Fork that are not safe or legal to go around, so plan your trip accordingly. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is clear and fishable by wading or floating in kayaks. Levels remain low so wade carefully and use a cautious approach. Casting down and across with streamers works best in these conditions.

Water temperatures are in the mid 60's so chest high waders are highly recommended.
