Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 24, 2025
Share
The smallmouth are making us work for it. The water levels are low and crystal clear so the bass are wary. Wade as carefully as you can so you are not sending out signals. The South Fork of the Shenandoah River carries more water than the North Fork so we are concentrating on the Rt. 675 bridge west of Luray downstream to Fosters Landing for good wading. Some of our customers have been doing well around the Shenandoah River State Park near Bentonville. Whether you decide to go on the North Fork or the South Fork, plan to fish deep pockets around ledges, shady banks or downed trees. The water temperature is getting cooler so most anglers are using chest high waders.
Recommended flies for this week:
- Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 6
- Shenk's White Streamer size 6
- Murray's Hellgrammite size 6
- Crayfish, Olive size 6
Fish these on a Bright Butt 9ft 2X leader.
