Smallmouth Bass Streams Fly Fishing Report - September 8, 2021

The North and South Fork of the Shenandoah River are in beautiful shape after the recent high water. The levels are back to normal and they are clear.

Fishing the Hexagenia mayfly hatch with the Mr. Rapidan Skater Dry Fly size 8 is very effective and exciting. During the beginning of the hatch each day many swirls are apparent as the bass feed on the emerging flies just below the surface. An effective technique is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle Nymph size 10 on a 24-inch 2X mono dropper coming off the bend of the Mr. Rapidan Skater with an improved clinch knot. Fish this across stream along the surface with a slow twitching action.
