This time of year produces some of the largest hatches we see on these streams bringing many trout to the surface to feed. In addition to the two drys used on the mountain streams report (Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 14 & Blue Quill size 16), the Spirit of Pittsford Mills size 14 is outstanding. On the largest streams an effective ploy is to fish a Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle, Brown size 14 on a two foot 5X dropper below the dry fly.
The rains yesterday discolored some of the local stocked trout streams but they are clearing today and the water levels are perfect.
