Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 16, 2019
Share
Many of the stocked trout streams such as Back Creek and Hidden Valley of the Jackson have excellent midge hatches which produce great fishing. The delicate dimple riseform the trout produce when they are feeding is indicative of them sipping the adult midges from the surface of the stream. The Mr. Rapidan Midge Dry size 18 and Birchells Hatching Midge Black size 20 will catch many of these trout. A splashy riseform shows that the trout is taking the natural midge below the surface. The Mr. Rapidan Brown Soft Hackle size 16 and the Brassie size 18 are effective on these trout.
Stream Conditions: The local streams such as Big Stoney Creek (Edinburg), Mill Creek (Mount Jackson), and Passage Creek (Fort Valley) are low and clear. Wade carefully so you do not spook the fish. Please keep in mind that these streams are not stocked during the summer months.
