At this time of the year you will often see trout rising to feed before you can tell what they are taking. They are eating midges! At dusk it is not unusual to spot trout rising in the flat pools on Big Stoney Creek and Passage Creek. The Mr. Rapidan Midge size 18 and 20 fished on a Murray's Classic 9ft 7X leader will catch many of these trout which you see sip in the adults.
The local stocked trout streams are back to normal stream levels and Big Stoney Creek was just stocked January 29.
