Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 16, 2020

The rainbows that are being stocked in the larger streams throughout the state are feeding on large nymphs.  My favorite nymphs for this time of year are the Bitch Creek Nymph size 8, Murray's Skunk Road Kill Nymph size 8 and the Murray's Olive Strymph size 8.  These can be fished across stream, along the stream bottom with a slow twitching action or upstream dead drift.

All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable.  Some have been stocked this October and some have not but I expect them to be stocking more area streams within the next week.  Check the stocking schedule on the Virginia's DWR page for more information.  Big Stoney Creek in Edinburg was just stocked on October 15.
