Stocked Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 29, 2020

The large trout which were stocked earlier this month have learned to feed on both the nymphs and minnows in the stream. To take advantage of this I use a two fly rig. I use a size 10 Pearl Marauder as the top fly on my 9ft 4X Classic Leader. I attach 24 inches of 4X tippet material to the bend of the hook on the top fly. To this I attach a size 12 Mr. Rapidan Olive Soft Hackle. Both of these flies are very effective.
The local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. The rain showers today are actually helping the stream levels. The DWR is stocking many streams throughout the state of Virginia so if you are traveling or have the day off, take the time to explore a new stream. My book Virginia Blue Ribbon Streams covers many trout and bass streams throughout the state.
