Murray’s Fly Shop Mountain Trout/Large Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report
Mountain Trout Streams: The mountain trout streams are too cold for good fishing.
Large Trout Streams and Delayed Harvest Streams: A great way to take advantage of the exciting midge fishing now is to fish a two-fly rig. Use a Mr. Rapidan Midge Dry size 18 or a Birchell’s Hatching Midge size 20 on a Murray’s Classic 9 foot 6X Leader. Then come off the bend of that hook with twenty four inches of 7X using an improved clinch knot. To this attach a Bead Head Copper John Zebra size 18. Fish this dead drift where you see rising trout. If you do not see riseforms fish this rig across stream in the slowest parts of the pools with a very slow twitching action.
