Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update July 11, 2025

The local stocked trout streams such as Big Stoney Creek west of Edinburg and Passage Creek in Fort Valley are still a little murky but the levels are ideal. Plan to use nymphs such as Jigged Squirmy Wormie, Olsen's Barbless Blowtorch size 16 and streamers such as Murray's Marauder size 10 in olive or pearl.
The native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park are doing best by coming into the streams from the upper reaches off the Skyline Drive. The lower boundaries are carrying extra water. Good flies for the SNP include: Murray's Flying Beetle size 16, Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16. Mr. Rapidan Parachute Dry size 16, Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Olive size 14. If you prefer to use nymphs: Bead Head Copper John, Green size 16, Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph size 14, and Copper John Jig, Barbless size 14.
Little Stoney Creek west of Edinburg is doing well by coming into the stream from the upper access off of FS92. Use the same flies as above for the SNP.
