Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - Update July 3, 2025

Recommendations for 7-3-25 (native brook trout) At this time I would recommend coming in from the Skyline Drive to the heads of the streams in order to get above the higher water levels. Use a Murray's Flying Beetle size 14, Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16, or Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Olive size 14. If you want to use nymphs put on a Mr. Rapidan Bead Head Nymph size 14, Perdigon Nymph size 14, or Copper John Jig size 14.

Update July 3, 2025 All of the local stocked trout streams are clearing and the flow is returning to normal. The picture above was taken from the back of our fly shop (Big Stoney Creek) on July 2 at 8:30am.  As of this morning 7/3/25 it is slightly stained with a good flow and fishable. Passage Creek in Fort Valley still has some color to it but should clear enough to be fishable by July 4.

Murray's Fly Shop will be closed July 4-7 for the holiday.  All online orders will be shipped upon our return on July 8.
