Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 25, 2026

Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - March 25, 2026

Anglers are doing well on the native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park. The Quill Gordon hatch is on. We are using nymphs and drys on a Murray's Mountain 6ft 5X leader. If you are familiar with using a dry/dropper rig, that is recommended. A fly rod that is 6.5ft to 7.5ft in a 3-weight is ideal for these streams.  We offer many different fly rod and reel combos if you are looking for a new outfit.

Recommended flies for this week:

  • Mr. Rapidan Parachute Dry size 14
  • Mr. Rapidan Delta Wing Caddis, Black size 14
  • Mr. Rapidan Emerger size 14
  • Copper John, Zebra or Green size 14
  • Murray's Caddis Pupa, size 14
  • Mr. Rapidan Soft Hackle Nymph, Olive size 14

The book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park is a great reference for access to streams, hatch charts, and reading the water.

We had a few cancellation in our Mountain Trout Fly Fishing School on April 1, 2026 meeting at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, VA for classroom presentation and then proceeding to a native brook trout in the Shenandoah National Park.  Click for more info and to register.
