Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 1, 2025

Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 1, 2025

The native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park are low and clear.  The trout are very wary and they are getting ready to spawn starting this month. Therefore, after this week I would recommend not fishing these streams while they are spawning. 1) I do not want to stress the fish and 2) I do not want to step on a spawning bed and ruin hundreds of eggs that will provide wonderful brookie next spring.

Murray's Flying Beetle size 16, Mr. Rapidan Ant size 18, and Mr. Rapidan Midge size 18 are working well. Fish these on a Classic 9ft 6X leader.

SIMMS Waders & Boots are 20% off while supplies last.

April and May are prime time to fish the native brook trout streams for water levels and hatches.  Which is why we conduct our fly fishing schools during April and May.  Spring 2026 Dates are open for registration! Click links below for more information.
