Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 15, 2026
Share
All of the local stocked trout streams have great water levels and the color has cleared from the heavy rain last Sunday. Passage Creek in Fort Valley is scheduled to be stocked on 10/16 in both the delayed harvest and put and take section. The VA DWR will continue to stock streams throughout Virginia so check their website for updates on which streams were just recently stocked. Make sure your fishing licenses are up to date and bring hip boots with a good grip.
Recommended flies for the stocked trout streams:
- Squirmy Wormie size 10
- Bead Head Prince size 12
- Olsen's Blowtorch Barbless size 16
- Mr. Rapidan Dry size 18
- Blue Wing Olive size 18
- Murray's Flying Beetle size 16
- Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 8
This is the time of year that anglers like to go to the Shenandoah National Park not just to sight see but also fish. I personally do not fish the native brook trout streams during October and November as the brook trout are spawning. If you do decide to fish these streams, be aware and avoid stepping on the spawning beds. Return the trout to the stream as quickly as possible.
Spring is prime time for fishing native brook trout streams, which is why we host our Native Brook Trout on the Stream Schools during this season. We are currently accepting registrations for Spring 2027.
