Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - October 30, 2025
Share
We finally got some rain to help the stream levels--just a little bit. All of the local stocked trout streams are clear and fishable. Big Stoney Creek west of Edinburg and Passage Creek in Fort Valley were stocked within the last month. The DWR will continue to stock streams throughout Virginia over the next several months. Check their website for the latest streams stocked.
Recommended flies:
- Copper John, Zebra size 16
- Murray's Dark Stonefly Nymph size 12
- Rubber Leg Nymph, Brown size 8
- Murray's Marauder, black size 12
- Mr. Rapidan Dry size 18
- San Juan Worm size 10
If you are fishing Passage Creek in Fort Valley, I just want to point out that there are two sections--a delayed harvest area (all fish must be put back) and a put and take section (you can keep fish per regulations). So that everyone gets to enjoy the stream, please follow the regulations.
The brook trout are spawning, therefore I do not recommend fishing the native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park at this time.
April and May are prime time to fish the native brook trout streams for water levels and hatches. Which is why we conduct our fly fishing schools during April and May. Spring 2026 Dates are open for registration! Click links below for more information.
