The Scott Session 907/4 is an excellent 7-weight fly rod for smallmouth and largemouth bass, large trout, carp, and other fish that require larger flies and plenty of casting power. I particularly like this rod for smallmouth bass fishing because it casts large poppers, streamers, and other bass flies with ease while still having the smooth, responsive feel I look for in a Scott fly rod.

We use the Scott Session 9' 7-weight in our Summer Fly Fishing Schools because it is such a versatile bass rod. It has enough power to cast large flies and handle windy conditions, but it is still comfortable to fish throughout the day. I also like it as a crossover rod for streamer fishing for large trout, carp, and smaller anadromous fish. It works well with both floating and sinking lines, making it a very useful 7-weight for anglers who fish a variety of waters.

The Scott Session combines a fast-action blank with a carefully selected component package. The rod features a new grip design, a custom-machined aluminum reel seat with a dyed box elder wood insert, Silicon Nitride stripping guides, and low-glare light-wire snake guides. These components complement the performance of the high-performance blank without adding unnecessary weight.

Recommended Fly Line

Scott recommends 185–210 grains for the Session SE907/4. Our outfit includes a Scientific Anglers Mastery Bass Bug WF-7-F floating fly line, which is an excellent match for casting poppers, streamers, and other large bass flies. The line's bass-specific taper helps load the rod quickly and turn over larger flies.

How to Order: Please select your Reeling Hand preference and your Orvis Reel Color.

Reeling Hand: Select the hand you use to crank the fly reel. The other hand will hold the rod. Choose Left or Right.

Orvis Reel Color: Choose Black, Olive, or Copper. If no color is selected, Black will be sent.

If you plan to put the fly line on the reel yourself after your outfit arrives, select “No Line on My Reel.” We will ship the reel, fly line, and backing separately, without the line or backing being spooled onto the reel.

Fly Line Options

The included Scientific Anglers Mastery Bass Bug WF-7-F is an excellent floating line for bass poppers, streamers, and other large flies. If your primary use is different, we can also set up this outfit with a different fly line to match the type of fishing you do.

For streamer fishing for large trout, a sinking or sink-tip line may be a better choice. If you are fishing carp or other freshwater species, we can recommend a line based on the flies and water you fish. Just let us know how you plan to use the outfit and we will help you choose the best fly line.
