Trout Streams Fly Fishing Report - August 19, 2026
Share
The native brook trout streams in the Shenandoah National Park are looking a little better this week. Some areas received almost 2 inches of rain over the weekend. Rose, Hughes, and White Oak Canyon are doing well. For more information on access to the Park streams, see the book Trout Fishing in the Shenandoah National Park. A stealthy approach is recommended. Mornings and evenings are the best times to fish. Water temperatures are staying in the low to mid 60's. There are not any major hatches occurring right now so we are relying on terrestrial patterns like the flies listed below.
Recommended Flies for this week:
- Murray's Flying Beetle size 16
- Murray's Housefly size 16
- Mr. Rapidan Ant size 16 & 18
- Murray's Yellow Jacket Dry size 16
- Mr. Rapidan Midge size 18
Fish these on a Murray's Classic 7.5ft 6X leader or Murray's Mountain Leader 6ft 6X.
