Murray’s Blue Wing Olive Nymph – Match the hatch for Selective Trout
The Murray’s Blue Wing Olive Nymph is built for technical trout days when fish dial in on small, natural mayfly nymphs. Designed to imitate the delicate BWO nymph found in cold, clean trout waters, this pattern shines during spring and fall hatches — and remains effective all year in streams with healthy mayfly populations.
Its slim, streamlined body, natural coloration, and subtle movement make it ideal for fooling pressured fish in clear rivers, tailwaters, and spring creeks. Drift it through riffles, seams, and slow edges when trout are feeding just off the bottom or emerging just before a hatch. When the Blue Wing Olives are moving, this fly delivers.
These multi brooded mayflies are the heaviest hatches on many streams, especially early and late in the season. A great tactic is to fish this nymph on a one to two foot Orvis Mirage 5x fluorocarbon dropper below a Mr. Rapidan Dry Fly size 16. When you encounter emerging or hatching insects, shorten your dropper. We will even "short leash" these flies by suspending them 6-8" under the dry fly.
A must-carry for anglers who target selective trout and want true hatch-matching confidence.
