Our bass rivers presently have a great amount of grass growing in them. This does not deter the bass from feeding, however, it governs our tactics. Actually I always like to take advantage of the cool water in September. To whip the grass problem, I simply go to hard surface bugs. I fish the Shenandoah Blue Popper, Shenandoah Chartreuse Chugger, and Murray's Sunfish Slider. My choice is governed by the character of the river. Actually September gives me some of the finest surface fishing for smallmouths of the whole year.
